HEY, ABEL HERE

Personal Trainer & Online Fitness Coach from New York City.

I left my comfortable corporate job and became a personal trainer in 2016.

My story started when I was young, never feeling comfortable in my skin. I hid behind studying, video games, and playing sports. I was a husky kid, somewhere between average-sized and overweight. I was never a “beach person,” nor was I the popular kid because I didn’t have the confidence to love myself and be my true self.

No matter what diet or workout I did, nothing changed the fact I had breasts. It wasn’t until after college I realized I suffered from gynecomastia, an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in boys or men caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. This insecurity led to finally having surgery which began my transformation.

I had a friend frankly tell me I needed to lose weight and I should start with the Paleo Diet. I can be honest here because it took me a long time to accept the things I’m ashamed of. I also learned that the more you open up about your insecurities, the more you discover other people have similar internal battles. While recovering from surgery, I also gained a significant amount of weight, reaching 250 lbs, my heaviest weight.

Long story short, changing how I ate food helped me lose 63 lbs. In the process, I became curious about how the body worked, leading me to become a personal trainer and nutrition coach. It was like I had unlocked a hidden secret and wanted to help as many people as possible do the same. When you can overcome a problem you’ve been struggling with for years, it’s empowering. It gives you one less thing to worry about so you can focus on what’s important to you.

Fitness and Nutrition should enhance your life, not consume it.

I grew up with parents who didn’t take care of themselves, and I’ve seen firsthand the effects that has on you and the people around you. I believe that if you can transform yourself in the gym, you become strong and confident in yourself, and when you like who you are and who you’re becoming, you treat people better.

More About Me…

When I’m not in the gym, I like comedy, gaming, and nature.

I watch a lot of stand-up comedy, and my top three would be Dave Chappelle, Patrice O’Neal, and Andrew Schulz.

My parents kept me busy at home with homework and video games because it wasn’t safe to be out in the streets of New York City. I grew up on Madden and Halo. I stopped playing video games until Covid and then discovered I’m a beast at Call of Duty.
